Before the Rangers even had a chance to celebrate their ALDS sweep of the Orioles, their fans set their sights on the ALCS and a potential all-Texas showdown.

“We want Houston,” the crowd at Globe Life Field chanted in the waning moments of a 7-1 rout in Game 3 of the ALDS.

The Rangers are 5-0 in the postseason following a painful end to the regular season. Texas dropped from first in the AL West on the season’s final day, going from avoiding the wild-card round and hosting the first two games of the ALDS to having to play its first four games on the road.

Their remarkable turnaround after such a considerable letdown has resulted in the team reaching the ALCS for the first time since 2011. That year, Texas was a strike away from winning its first World Series, eventually losing to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.

As hot as the Rangers are, their fans clamoring for the defending World Series champion is a bold move. The Twins may find it rude, too.

The Astros still need to win one more game to advance to the ALCS, but they look like a good bet to reach the next round after beating Minnesota 9-1 in Game 3 of the Divisional Series.

If Houston wins, it would be the seventh consecutive season it reached the ALCS, where it’s gone 4-2.

It would also be the first intra-state Championship Series, which will raise the stakes even more than they usually are with a spot in the World Series on the line.

While Houston still has work to do, it has the second-best odds of winning the World Series. After their team won the season series 9-4 against the Rangers, Astros fans have every reason to chant, “We want Texas.”
