Powerade State Games Opening Ceremonies Kicks Off Huge Weekend

Winston-Salem Prepares For Athletes As Powerade State Games Gets Into Full Swing

DURHAM, NC, June 13, 2012 – The Powerade State Games of North Carolina has
a full slate of events for the upcoming weekend. The schedule kicks off
with Opening Ceremonies, presented by Golding Farms Foods, on Friday, June
15th. Held at Corpening Plaza in Downtown Winston-Salem, the Opening
Ceremonies features the Powerade FanFest, a Parade of Athletes, the lighting
of the cauldron, and an After Party headlined by the band Below The Line, a
local Winston-Salem favorite. The FanFest starts at 6:00pm, with the Parade
of Athletes to follow at 7:00pm, the lighting of the cauldron at 7:30pm and
the After Party starting just after the cauldron is lit. All times are
approximate and admission is free to athletes, parents, coaches and the
general public.

The High School Baseball Showcase starts on Wednesday, June
13th, and will continue through the weekend at BB&T Park on Thursday and
Wake Forest University on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the
Convention Center has three sports competing simultaneously: Fencing,
Karate, and Taekwondo. Also on Saturday, Forsyth Country Day School hosts
the High School Lacrosse Showcase and the Wrestling Tournament, while
Horizons Park hosts the Disc Golf Tournament. The two day events for
Saturday and Sunday are the High School Soccer Showcase (Wake Forest
University), Youth Basketball (Joel Coliseum Education Building), and the
Adult & Youth Soccer Tournaments (BB&T Soccer Park). Finally, on Sunday,
the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds plays host to the Cycling Criterium event.

Outside of Winston-Salem, the Powerade State Games Youth Ice Hockey
competition takes place at Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail on Saturday
and Sunday. The Powerade State Games welcomes Shooting back into the mix
with two events this weekend as well. Smallbore Prone at Crosse Creek Rifle
and Pistol Club (Fayetteville) will be held on Saturday, while the Durham
Pistol and Rifle Club plays host to the Bullseye Pistol competition.
Rounding out this weekend’s events, the Powerade State Games has partnered
with NC ASA Fastpitch Softball for their State Championships taking place in
Greensboro and Burlington this weekend.
