Keyshaun Drops 30 as Spartans Down the ‘Dins, 89-87

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s basketball team fought until the very end as the Spartans defeated the Furman Paladins on Sunday night in Timmons Arena, 89-87, on ESPNU.

Keyshaun Langley(Southwest Guilford High School) had his first 30-point game of his career, scoring 21 points in the first half. He is the second Spartan to reach the 30-point mark this season.

Mikeal Brown-Jones contributed 19 points, while Jalen Breath had 13 points.

The Spartans are now 6-2 in Greenville, S.C. since the 2016-17 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The two teams traded baskets for the first scores of the game and the contest was tied for the first time at 17:15, 7-7. The Spartans went on an 11-4 run for a four-point advantage, 15-11, where Keyshaun made all 11 points for UNCG. Neither team was able to maintain a comfortable lead with four ties and 13 lead changes before Furman made back-to-back three pointers to take the lead heading into the break, 51-47.

Coming out of the locker room, the Paladins maintained the advantage until the Spartans went on a 10-2 run for a three-point lead, 68-65. UNCG climbed its way to a 10-point buffer, 80-70, behind a 12-4 run with 6:30 left in the second half. As the fight continued, Furman dominated the last few minutes with a 17-7 run to tie the game one final time at 87. With the Spartans up two on a layup by Breath with 59-seconds left, Furman missed three field goals and two free throws to give UNCG an 89-87 victory.

BY THE NUMBERS

The Spartans shot an impressive 59.1-percent from long range (13-for-22), making it the best of the season.
They also shot 94.7-percent (18-for-19) from the free throw line, for the best percentage this season.
Keyshaun shot 6-for-9 from behind the arc.
Brown-Jones shot 8-for-8 at the charity stripe.
Breath added five rebounds to his stat line, as well as a career-best three blocks.
Kobe and Donovan Atwell each chipped in five assists. Atwell’s five was a career high.
Tim Ceaser registered a game-high six rebounds.
Both teams had 10 second-chance points.
UNCG had 28 points in the paint compared to Furman’s 24.

UP NEXT
UNCG returns home for two games, hosting Samford on Thursday, February 8 at the Greensboro Coliseum with a start time of 7:00 p.m. This game will be broadcast on ESPNU. The Spartans will then host Chattanooga on Saturday, February 10 at 4:00 p.m. back on ESPN+ at the Greensboro Coliseum.
