Grimsley Baseball, Barrett LaFrance 7-4 Winners over Glenn

Grimsley baseball got back on the winning track Thursday with a 7-4 win over the visiting Glenn Bobcats of Kernersville.  The Whirlies improved to 2-2 on the season while handing Glenn their first loss.  Barrett LaFrance saved the day for Grimsley and had an overall outstanding game.   The sophomore made several key defensive plays at third base, got on base three times, scoring one run and also pick up the save.  The Bobcats cut the lead to four in the 7th inning and had the base loaded with no one out when manager Jason Simmons handed the ball to the right hander to try to end the game.  LaFrance responded by retiring the next three batters in order, sealing the victory for Grimsley and ending the Glenn winning streak.  Grimsley was able to score 3 runs in the second inning all while not tallying a single hit.  The inning started with four straight walks, a strike out, a walk and then a sac fly.  The Whirlies then proceeded to score one run in each of the next four innings.  Grimsley ended with 12 walks for the game.   Grimsley stater Levi Ponder went five innings, allowing three hits and just one run while striking out 5.  Teammate first-basebaseman Clay Rosser reached safety all four plate appearances.
