Greensboro Colts and Slack Turn Back Puerto Rico 4-3

Our Greensboro Colt team out in Lafayette, Indiana made it two wins and no losses on Friday afternoon as they knocked off a tough Puerto Rico ball club by the 4-3 score. The Greensboro squad coached by Alan Ashkinazy, had Warren Slack on the mound Friday and Slack was strong. Warren(Southwest Guilford) went six innings and struck out 7 Puerto Ricans and Slack also carried a mean bat with a double at the plate to spark the Greensboro offense.

Blaine McCraw(Southwest Guilford) picked up the save for the Greesnboro Colt pitching staff working out of a bases loaded jam in one inning of relief. Brandon McKinney(Northwest Guilford) helped the local Colts at the plate (double-single-2 RBI’s) but in the end the Puerto Rico boys out-hit our guys 6-4 but so did Tampa when Greensboro beat them back on Wednesday. A big difference was on defense where for the second straight game the Greensboro Colts committed no errors but Puerto Rico had three.

Our Colts got off to a 2-0 lead early in the game but PR battled back to cut it to 4-2 before closing the gap to one run with the 4-3 final score. Our guys, the local Greensboro Colts have now beaten what most observers consider the two toughest Series teams in Tampa and Puerto Rico and this helps Greensboro as they continue pool play on Saturday. Between them, Tampa and Puerto Rico have won five of the last six Colt World Series.

Today(Saturday) at 12 noon the Greensboro Colts will face Bay County, Michigan. Michael Dimock(High Point Wesleyan) will be on the mound for the GB Colts. Greensboro will have an off day on Sunday before continuing Colt World Series pool play on Monday night at 7:30 versus the host team Hooiser North out of Indiana. Keep it up Colts, now 2-0 through two games and looking to make it 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
