Pirates beat Reds 1-0 without recording a hit

The Cincinnati Reds didn’t allow a hit Sunday, but still found a way to lose 1-0 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was the sixth time since 1901 that an MLB team won without a hit.
Reds pitcher Hunter Greene struck out nine and had a no-hitter through seven innings, but it was in the eighth inning when things went haywire. After forcing a leadoff groundout, Greene walked back-to-back batters. Reds reliever Art Warren entered the game, but walked the first batter he faced to load the bases.
Pittsburgh then broke the scoreless tie when Ke’Bryan Hayes grounded into a fielder’s choice and beat out a throw to avoid a double play. The groundout brought Rodolfo Castro home from third to give the Pirates the game-winning run.

The last time a team won without a hit was in June 2008 when the Los Angeles Dodgers squeaked out a 1-0 win against the Los Angeles Angels.
Cincinnati recorded four hits Sunday, but stranded three runners and lined into a double play. The Reds fell to an MLB-worst 9-26 with the loss, while the Pirates improved to 15-19.
