College Softball Final: Randolph 4, Guilford 2

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Lindsey Chaney struck out eight batters and earned the victory as Randolph College won at Guilford College, 4-2, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball game on Friday. The game was resumed from a suspended contest on March 24.

The Wildcats improved to 13-18 and 6-8 in ODAC contests. The Quakers fell to 17-18 and 5-11.

RC tallied two unearned runs in the top of the first inning of Guilford starter Courtney Lackey (7-8), which proved to be the difference in the contest. Lackey pitched six innings, allowed two
earned runs and suffered the loss.

The Quakers cut the margin to 2-1 in the second frame after Sabrina Moreno (3-3, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) knocked a solo home run down the leftfield line. Randolph led 3-1 in the sixth inning before Moreno doubled home Kayli Blankenship to pull the home team to within one run.

RC got a solo homer from Becca Montgomery in the seventh inning for the game’s final tally. GC had the first two batters reach base in the bottom half, but Chaney (6-8) retired the next three Quakers.

Randolph had eight hits to Guilford’s seven in the game. Sarah Aukamp went 2-3 for the home club. Lauren Morris and Briana Harbison both had two base hits for the Wildcats.

The Quakers host Meredith College on Saturday (4/21). The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. The first game is a resumption of a suspended game from Feb. 28. The game is tied 9-9 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Additionally, three student-athletes will be honored on Guilford’s Senior Day.
