College Baseball Final – Guilford 14, Greensboro 4

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s baseball team battered six different pitchers for 17 hits in Wednesday’s 14-4 win at Greensboro College. The Quakers’ (18-15-1) fourth straight win improved their record in April to 8-2.

Guilford wasted no time with four first-inning runs and scored in each of the game’s first six innings. Greensboro starter Tyler Garam (2-4) yielded Dylan Tuttle’s (Stoneville, N.C./McMichael) two-run single that started the scoring. Sam Gerald and Rocco Wilcox followed with RBIs. Logan Shortt (Advance, N.C./Calvary Day) had a two-run hit in the third and Wilcox added a two-run single in the Quakers’ three-run fourth that opened an 11-1 lead.

Tuttle (3-5, 3 runs), Wilcox (1-2), and Shortt (2-5) each had three RBI. Sam Gerald finished with three hits, as did Josh Shepherd. Shepherd smacked his team-leading 13th double of the season, which moved him into 10th place in school history with 33 career two-base hits.

Guilford’s offensive outburst benefitted starting pitcher Zach Dinkins, who improved to 4-0 with five innings of work. He was touched for four runs and nine hits, but got help from two of the Quakers’ three double plays in the game. Relievers Ryan Hill (Asheboro, N.C./Southwestern Randolph), Rhett Miller, and Austin Wilson (Lewisville, N.C./Reagan) scattered four hits in four scoreless innings.

Hunter Curtis, Chance Bryant, and Blake Carroll each had two hits for the Pride (16-19). Bryant doubled twice and had two RBI.
