GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s golf team took time out of their busy schedule to volunteer with the First Tee of The Triad as Gillespie Golf Course in Greensboro.

The First Tee has grown its network to deliver programs in a 50 states, since its inception in 1997, while also serving in select international locations.

The First Tee started as a way to bring an affordable junior golf program to youth and communities that did not have them. What The First Tee soon discovered was that blending the rules of the game with life and leadership skills, kids and teens did not just learn how to putt – they were learning important values.

On Monday, the Pride men volunteered by helping 12 youth, form the Greensboro community learn to chip and putt, while also playing the par-4 first.

In addition to teaching the game, the members of the golf team also talked to the kids about the importance of practice and working hard in school.

“It was a great evening for our guys as they really enjoyed teaching the game of golf to the kids,” head coach Jim Cantamessa said. “To see the excitement on the faces of the kids was priceless. We will certainly be back again in the fall.”
