Elon Track And Field Phoenix Dominate at VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Four event wins including two from senior Bre’anna Warren highlighted the Elon University women’s track and field team’s performance at the VertKlasse Meeting on Friday, April 6, at Vert Stadium on the campus of High Point University.

RESULTS

Warren’s victories in the shot put and the discus was half of the event victories that the Phoenix had on the day. Chelsea Smith led an Elon podium sweep in the 800-meters while the 4×400-meter relay team also received medalist honors.

Warren set a new personal-record in the discus throw as the Greensboro, N.C., native had a toss of 167′ 4″ (51.01m) to take medalist accolades. Teammate Bryanna Hames was the runner-up with her mark of 156′ 4″ (46.66m). Warren added her second event title with a 47′ 5″ (14.45m) in the shot put. Hames was seventh overall with a heave of 42′ 8.25″ (13.01m) while Skylar Barthelmes was eighth with a mark of 42′ 6″ (12.95m).

Smith clocked a 2:13.93 in the 800-meters, just shy of her personal-best. She would take medalist honors in the race ahead of teammate Natacha Savioz, who ran a 2:14.11 as the runner-up. Gabriela Varisco De Oliveira closed out the top-three of the event with her time of 2:15.72.

Elon’s 4×400-meter relay quartet of Katie Arbogast, Meagan Henderson, Savioz and Lauren Brzozowski won the race with its time of 3:49.97.

The Phoenix also had a few of its individuals set new personal-records at the meet. Barthelmes threw the third-best mark in school history in the hammer throw as the Dartmouth, Mass., native set a new personal-record with a 171′ 10″ (52.39m) and was fourth overall. Hames finished seventh with her mark of 157′ 1″ (47.89m) while Warren was eighth at 157′ 0″ (47.85m).

Arbogast clocked a time of 55.79 in the 400-meters – a new personal-record for the Media, Pa., native. She was the runner-up in the race while Brzozowski was third overall with her time of 56.95, a new season-best.

In the 1,500-meters, Coralea Geraniotis set a new personal-record with her time of 4:33.90, third overall in the event. Melissa Anastasakis ran a time of 4:37.05 for fifth while Brigid Brennan was sixth at 4:38.53. Geraniotis was the top Phoenix runner in the 5,000-meters as the Orleans, Mass., native ran a 17:17.69 to finish fourth. Corey Weiss also garnered a top-five finish with her 18:24.82.

Melody Burke was fifth overall in the high jump with a cleared height of 5′ 3.25″ (1.61m). Alyssa Zee was the Phoenix’s top finisher in the long jump with her leap of 17′ 4″ (5.28m) and seventh overall. Brzozowski had a 25.18 in the 200-meters for Elon and was sixth in the race.
