College Women’s Swimming Results- Guilford 12th in ODAC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s women’s swimming team finished in 12th place among 12 teams after Sunday’s third and final day of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Quakers finished with 40 points.

Washington and Lee University captured its league-record 11th straight team title against the largest championships field in league history. The Generals led from wire to wire and finished with 1,053 points, well ahead of second-place Randolph-Macon College (613). Bridgewater College took home third with 365 points, followed by Emory & Henry College (337) and league newcomer Roanoke College (294).

Guilford fielded entries in two of six events Saturday and was led by a 10th-place showing by sophomore Carolyn O’Halloran (Summerfield, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) in the 100-yard freestyle. O’Halloran placed 10th in the consolation final with a time of 57.51 seconds, three-hundredths of a second slower than her school-record time of 57.48 seconds set in 2016. Her preliminary time of 58.31 seconds ranks fifth in school history and was the 12th-best time in the opening round.

Freshman Courtney Packer also competed in the 100 freestyle. She swam a 1:29.18 in qualifying before turning in a personal-best 1:22.11 in a time trial.

Senior Isabel Gutierrez closed her college career with a 16th-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke. She qualified for the consolation final with a preliminary mark of 2:56.34 seconds and then swam a season-best 2:53.27 in the evening session.

Coach Ashley Cox’s team went 5-13 (3-12 ODAC) in the dual-meet portion of its season.
