College Women’s Swimming Results – Guilford 10th After First Day of ODAC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s women’s swimming team sits in 10th place among 12 teams after Friday’s opening day of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Ten-time defending league champion Washington and Lee University opened a sizable lead in the largest championships field in league history. The Generals scored 337 points Friday, well ahead of second-place Randolph-Macon College (172) and third-place Emory & Henry College (105). League newcomer Roanoke College (86) and Bridgewater College (84) rounded out the top-five teams.

Guilford fielded entries in three of five events Friday and were led by a ninth-place showing by the 400-yard medley relay. Makayla Carver, Isabel Gutierrez, Carolyn O’Halloran (Summerfield, N.C./Bishop McGuinness), and Jordan Deaton won the consolation final in five minutes, 23.58 seconds. Earlier in the day the team posted the Quakers’ best mark of the season (5:18.73) in the preliminaries.

The Quakers’ 200 freestyle relay came home in 11th place with a time of 2:02.74. Earlier in the day, the team of Carver, Gutierrez, Deaton and O’Halloran notched the day’s 10th-fastest preliminary time (2:00.60), a team season low.

O’Halloran claimed Guilford’s top individual result with a fifth-place finish in the consolation final of the 50 freestyle. The Quakers’ sophomore touched in 26.57 seconds, a season-low, and the 13th-fastest overall in the race. Carver (32.64, 28th), Deaton (33.02, 30th), and Courtney Packer (36.46, 36th) also competed in the 50 freestyle.
