The Panthers hit four 3-pointers in the first five minutes of the second half and opened up a lead as big as 28 to put the game out of reach.

“This was a great effort from our kids tonight,” HPU head coach Scott Cherry said. They did an unbelievable job from start to finish. They came out with the right intensity, emotion and passion, especially on the defensive end of the floor. We also played really well offensively in the first half. Any time you can get a road win in league play is huge, so we’ll take that one and continue to move on with a big game against Radford on Wednesday.”

Sophomore Jahaad Proctor led all scorers with 22 points, including five 3-pointers. It was Proctor’s fifth game of 20 or more points this season. Fellow sophomore Brandonn Kamga added 16, including 11 in the second half, while junior Andre Fox had 11 points.

Senior Jordan Whitehead grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, while Fox and junior Ricky Maddison each had six.

Proctor had five assists and High Point is 8-1 this season when Proctor has four or more assists.

HPU has now won 10 out of the last 11 meetings with Longwood.

With the win, the Panthers pull within one game of first place in the conference standings.

Up next, the Panthers host Big South first-place Radford on Wednesday evening (Jan. 24). Tip-off at Millis Center is set for 7 p.m.
