East Forsyth shook off the effects of a sluggish first half to register it’s fourth straight win with a 57-32 victory over North Surry at Jack Musten Gym in Kernersville to Wednesday night.

The Eagles, who were stretched to the final minute Tuesday night before pulling out a four-point win at home over Parkland, got out of the gate slowly against the visiting Greyhounds (2-3), leading by only three points (24-21) at the end of a sloppy first half marred by 13 turnovers by the home team.

But East came out with more energy at the start of the third quarter, expanding their lead to 17 (40-23) in the morning first six minutes of the half. With improved ball-handling & an increasingly stifling defensive effort, the Eagles held North Surry without a field goal from the 6:40 mark of the third quarter until a hail-mary three-pointer by Eli Riggs at the final horn, a stretch of almost 17 minutes.

Josh Mahaffey led the balanced Eagles, who had ten different players score, with ten points followed by Shemar Watkins’ eight points and seven each from reserves Khaliq McCummings, Savon Brintley & Tanis Samuels. Josh Wiley, one of ten different Eagles with at least one rebound, led his team with nine and added three blocked shots.

East hosts Carver on Friday night & travels to Ragsdale next Tuesday night.
