College Men’s Soccer Final; Guilford 2, Emory & Henry 1

EMORY, Va. – Omar Solis scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 28th minute as Guilford College won at Emory & Henry College, 2-1, on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Quakers improved to 2-12 and 2-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. E&H dropped to 4-9-1 and 0-4-1 in league play.

The Wasps scored first at the 12:03 mark. Jordan Couch drove down the left side into the box and finished his shot to the near post.

The Quakers responded just 15 seconds later. Ricky Aguilar dribbled through the E&H defense and scored near the left post.

Guilford made it 2-1 with 27:12 on the clock after Solis tallied off a pass from A.J. Hawkins. On the play, Hawkins delivered a cross from the right side and Solis finished in traffic.

The Guilford defense held off the Wasps the rest of the way. EHC outshot GC 4-0 in the last six minutes. Michael McShane had a save on a header in the final minute to help seal the victory. McShane had three saves and earned the win in goal.

Emory & Henry led in shots (21-17) and corner kicks (9-3). Wasp goalkeeper Samuel Irvin recorded six saves.

Guilford hosts Bridgewater on Saturday. The ODAC match begins at 7 p.m.
