Four HPT HiToms Names First Team All Coastal Plain League

High Point/Thomasville – The High Point-Thomasville HiToms paced the Coastal Plain League by having four players named to the All Coastal Plain League First Team: Evan Edwards, Clay Young, Mason McClelland and Jason Goe

Rice University freshman right-handed pitcher, Nick Silber was the HiToms lone representative on the CPL All-Second team.

“I am very proud of these five young men for being recognized as All-CPL performers,” HiToms Head Coach Brian Rountree said. “Their efforts this summer will go down as HiTom benchmarks.”

Led by CPL Hitter of the Year Evan Edwards (.355 batting average, 13 home runs, 474 on-base percentage), the Post 87 alum is joined by Greensboro native and Catawba pitcher Clay Young. Young recorded a 1.53 ERA in 47 innings pitched en route to registering 57 strikeouts and only 13 walks. The Caldwell Academy graduate started eight games for the Tommies and finished with a 2-0 record. Young was also named to the CPL All-Star game.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as a CPL All-First team member,” Clay Young said. “It was a fun summer playing with a lot of great players and coaches.”

McClellan, an Henry, GA native, posted an outstanding year at the plate for HPT clubbing 11 doubles, 7 home runs 39 RBI (team leader) and posting a .324 batting average. McClellan’s consistency also garnered CPL All-Star Game recognition.

“It’s an honor to be named 1st team All CPL and it’s fantastic to have my teammates joining me,” Mason McClellan said. “It’s great for all of the hard work and dedication to pay off and I want to thank Coach Brian Rountree for his dedication and motivation this summer. It was an awesome experience.”

The final HiTom to be named to the All CPL first team is right-handed pitcher Jason Goe. The Kentucky native led the Coastal Plain League in earned run average (1.01) while striking out 43 hitters and walking only 11. More impressively, Goe allowed just a .171 opposing batting average (CPL leader) in seven starts and 44 innings pitched.
