Bocock Adds Mallory Borden as an Assistant Coach to Elon Softball Staff

ELON, N.C. – Elon University head softball coach Kathy Bocock announced the addition of Mallory Borden as an assistant coach to her softball coaching staff on Monday, Aug. 28. Borden arrives after serving as volunteer assistant coach at College of Charleston last season.

“We are excited about Mallory joining the Elon softball family,” said Bocock. “She has so much love, excitement and knowledge for the game. She will add what we are looking for in the program’s continued success.”

Last season with College of Charleston, Borden worked primarily with the Cougar infielders and hitters. She helped the program to a .303 batting average and the defense to turn 27 double plays to rank among the national leaders while finishing with a .969 fielding percentage. Borden also headed the program’s community service projects.

“I am beyond excited to be a part of the Elon softball program,” said Borden. “I’d like to thank Coach Bocock and (associate head coach Jess) Jacobson along with the athletic department for this opportunity. I look forward to working with the staff and players and helping build champions not only on the field but in the classroom and community as well.”

Prior to joining the Cougar staff, Borden was a high school teacher and coach at her alma mater, Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Fla. Her softball team won a district and regional championship and reached the state semifinals in 2016.

A three-year letterwinner at Florida State from 2009-12, Borden played second base for the Seminoles, serving as team captain and received the Coaches Award following her senior season. She began her playing career at Santa Fe Community College where she was a first team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-South Region and third team All-American selection in 2008.

Borden was a Dean’s List student and earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology and social science from Florida State in 2012. After her graduation, she served as an officer with the FSU police department as well as an instructor for GameSpeed Softball in Tallahassee.
