GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s soccer team was selected to finish second in the USA South East Division according to the preseason coaches poll, the conference announced Wednesday.

Last season’s USA South Tournament runner-up, N.C. Wesleyan, was tabbed as the East Division favorites after recording five first-place votes, while the Pride received the final first-place vote.

“First we want to congratulate N.C. Wesleyan on the preseason ranking,” Head Coach Tony Falvino said. “We have a good group of players returning and introducing a lot of youngsters. We need to focus on ourselves as a team and grow together.

“We are excited for the season to get going.”

Greensboro welcomes back a strong nucleus from last season including All-Conference performers Carlos Barragan, Jamie Payamps and Cole Watkins. In addition, the Pride also welcome back 17 others, while adding several new faces to the squad.

The Pride will look to build upon their 12-6 overall mark from one season ago when they open their 2017 slate at the Christopher Newport University Classic, Sept. 1, against the Generals of Washington & Lee.

Maryville College was picked to win the West Division.
