Elon Track and Field’s O’Grady Receives CAA All-Academic Accolades

RICHMOND, Va. – Briana O’Grady of the Elon University women’s track and field team represented the Phoenix on the Colonial Athletic Association All-Academic Team as the league released its postseason awards on Monday, June 26.

During a breakthrough senior season, O’Grady set a new personal-best at the CAA Championships in the hammer throw. The South Kingstown, R.I. native threw a mark of 169’ 3” (51.58m) at the league meet and was fifth overall. That throw sits third all-time on the program’s outdoor performance list.

O’Grady graduated this spring with a degree in exercise science. This was her first appearance on the CAA All-Academic Team in her career.

The Phoenix also had eight athletes and its 4×400-meter relay team earn a total of 11 all-conference honors, given for finishing top-three in an event at the CAA Championships. Those honorees include league event individual champions Carrie Abraham (triple jump), Emily Dixon (heptathlon) and (Kimberly Johansen (800 and 1,500-meters). The 4×400-meter relay team also took CAA medalist honors for the second straight season.
