Track and Field: HPU¹s Holmes-DiGiovine Wins Discus at Mountaineer Open

BOONE, N.C. — High Point University junior Makenzi Holmes-DiGiovine won the women’s discus as the Panther track and field teams competed at the Mountaineer Open in Boone, N.C.

Holmes-DiGiovine won the women’s discus with a throw of 46.93m (154-0), while senior Jamie Schnuck placed third in a good women’s hammer competition with a mark of 55.31m (181-6).

Senior Madison Depner placed seventh in the women’s pole vault after clearing a personal-best height of 3.38m (11-1).

On the men’s side, senior Isaiah Henderson and freshman Pablo Romero Gonzalez tied for fourth in the pole vault after clearing season-best heights of 4.43m (14-6.25).

“It was good for Makenzi to get the win, she is starting to put some things together in the discus,” HPU head coach Mike Esposito said. “Madison getting a PR today shows she is coming around in time for the conference champs, while Pablo and Isaiah did well in the men’s vault. All in all, a good weekend getting ready for conference.”

The Panthers will next be in action on Wednesday (May 3) at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier in Lynchburg, Va.
