FOREST, Va. – Guilford College freshman Zachary Evens (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) earned his first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Golfer of the Week Award Monday. He is the second Quaker to receive the award this season.
Evens led Guilford with an eighth-place finish at the Discover DeKalb Emory Invitational April 8-9 in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He shot an even-par 70 that included four birdies to end the weekend with 72-70-142, which helped Guilford place 10th in the 15-team field. Evens’ round of 70 marks his fourth round of par or under this season. He had the Quakers’ best score in both rounds of the 36-hole tournament.
Through 16 rounds in six events, Evens has a 74.6 stoke average per round, which tops Guilford and ranks fifth in the ODAC. In those six events, he has placed in the top-10 four times with one top-five finish. He is ranked 92nd out of 150 golfers in the current Golfstat.com Division III Head-to-Head Rankings.
Evens and coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers compete for the ODAC title April 23-25 at the Wintergreen Resort in Nellysford, Virginia. Guilford is ranked 20th in the latest Golfstat.com Division III standings.
