Those South Carolina Gamecocks are doing fine today, but thinking back to South Carolina basketball in a different era(Roche and Owens two of the best-ever)

The South Carolina Gamecocks are experiencing basketball success on the collegiate level that has never before been entertained by the boys from Columbia, South Carolina, but there was a time back in the 1970’s when they had teams with players just as good, if not better than the ones you are seeing today, as Carolina(South) hits Phoenix, for the Final Four…

These Gamecock basketball players from back in the 1970’s were really, and I mean really, Game…

You could not beat these guys with a stick of Dynomite….
John Roche….One of the dirtiest players in the game, but a guard that was so hard to stop…
Tom Owens….And I will take Tom over any of the Gamecocks…One of the best pure rebounders that I have ever seen in my life…Played for the Carolina Cougars, coming out of South Carolina and he was just great, and he could carry the load on the inside…
Tom Riker
John Ribok
Kevin Joyce
Bobby Cremins

Alex/Alexander English
Brian Winters
and the list goes on and on and I would take John Roche and Tom Owens on my All-ACC Team any day of the week..Those two were competitors beyond measure….They said in the ‘heat of the battle’, Roche would spit in your face….
