Women’s Lacrosse: HPU Wins Fifth-Straight Game, Defeats La Salle, 17-11

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—The High Point University women’s lacrosse team won its fifth-consecutive game, defeating La Salle, 17-11, Friday evening (March 24) at McCarthy Stadium in Philadelphia.

High Point (5-3) held a big advantage in draw controls, 22-8, but the Explorers (4-4) led in ground balls, 28-11.

“I’m so proud of this road win tonight,” HPU head coach Lyndsey Boswell said. “We are happy to have spent some time with family this weekend and have a big following with us. This was a complete team win but we had a few standouts. Jill (Rall) was a rock star in the cage, Ashley Britton contributed in a big way on the offensive end and Sam Brown was a great leader and set the tone throughout the game.

“We controlled 22 draws, which was the main difference in the second half and overall I couldn’t be more proud of the way these girls are competing to make sure we win games. This is a team with a lot of grit and grind and I love the way they carry themselves on and off the field.”

Senior Samantha Brown had a career-day with six goals, which is tied for the second-most in a game in program history. Freshman Ashley Britton tallied a season-high five goals.

In goal, freshman Jill Rall broke the school record for saves in a game with 16. Rall broke the mark set by Julia Burns against Virginia Tech on Feb. 20, 2015. With the win, Rall improved to 4-0 on the season.

The Panthers scored the first three goals of the game, but then La Salle followed with the next three goals. HPU then went on an 8-3 run to take a 12-6 lead. The Explorers recorded four of the next five to cut the lead to 13-10, but the Panthers broke the game open with the next four goals.

Up next, High Point faces Drexel on Sunday at noon at Vidas Field in Philadelphia.
