GRASONVILLE, Md. – Jared Mactas shot a career-low round of 67 and sits atop the individual leaderboard as the Elon University men’s golf team is in second place after the first round of the Towson Spring Invitational on Saturday, March 25, at Prospect Bay Country Club.
Elon shot an even-par 288 in the first round and trails the leader Fairleigh Dickinson by one stroke in the 36-hole tournament. All five Phoenix combined to make 14 birdies and one eagle through the first 18 holes. After day one, Elon has three individuals in the top-25 and all five players are in the top-40 in a 120-player field.
The Highlights
Mactas currently has a one-stroke lead after shooting a career-best five-under 67 in the first round. He started the tournament strong with four birdies and an eagle on the par-four eighth. Mactas made two of his birdies and his eagle on the front nine.
Charlie May finds himself in the top-10 after opening the tournament with an even-par round of 72. Philip Loeb is the third Phoenix in the top-25 after carding a two-over 74 and is currently tied for 24th after 18 holes.
William Harwood and Jake Leavitt are right behind Loeb. Harwood posted a three-over 75 and is tied for 31st individually. Leavitt finished his opening round with a four over-par 76 and is in a tie for 40th. Both Harwood and Leavitt drained the second-most birdies in the lineup as they made three each.

The Phoenix concludes the Towson Spring Invitational with the final round tomorrow at the Prospect Bay Country Club. All five Elon players will tee off between 9:50 a.m. and 10:34 a.m.
