FINAL RESULTS

Elon earned both points in singles with victories from Erica Braschi and Maria Paraja, while Phoenix duo of Suzanne Zenoni and Kirsten Ward also picked up a win during doubles action on court three.

The maroon and gold made it a tight match down stretch in singles action, forcing third sets in the two deciding matches. Elon falls to 13-7 overall with the loss and Hawaii improves to 9-4 with the win.

THE RUNDOWN
The Phoenix battled in doubles action after Hawaii took the first match at the No. 1 position. Zenoni and Ward claimed a 6-3 victory on court three to knot up the doubles point. However, Rainbow Wahine duo of Michelle Pits and Roxanne Resma clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at No. 2 to give Hawaii a 1-0 lead in the match.

Singles began with Petra Melounova taking a 6-1, 6-4 victory on court two to extend Hawaii’s lead. Resma then put the Rainbow Wahine in a position to clinch after her 7-5, 6-2 win over Ward at the No. 4 position gave Hawaii a 3-0 lead.

Maria Paraja got the Phoenix back on track, grinding out a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 5 to put Elon on the scoreboard. Erica Braschi followed with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 1 to make it a 3-2 Hawaii lead with two singles matches remaining. The singles win for Paraja is a team-high 13th of the dual match season.

Zenoni’s match would end first, but not without a fight. She played a tightly contested third set at the No. 3 position. However, Hruba came out on top with a 7-5 third-set victory to clinch Hawaii’s victory over Elon.

Edo had fought hard to force at third set on court six, but Nikola Dolakova ended the match with a 6-2 final-set win to finalize the Rainbow Wahine’s 5-2 win against the Phoenix.
