WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The High Point University men’s golf team carded a 305 in the second round of the Kingsmill Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary on Monday and remains in 16th-place with one round to play.

For the second time in as many days, freshman Alec Weary was the Purple & White’s top performer. The Bluffton, S.C. product started with two bogeys in his first three holes, but played the final 15 holes at +1 and is tied for 32nd on the leaderboard.

“Obviously, not the last two days we wanted, but we’re not going to get down on ourselves,” head coach Brady Gregor said. “We have come too far from where we were on day one to go backwards now. We look forward to turning it around tomorrow and building positive momentum for the rest of the season.”

Freshman Brendan MacDougall showed a steep improvement on Monday finishing the day with 10 straight pars en route to a +3 (73) round. The Canadian moved up nine spots overall in the field by improving from his round one score by seven strokes (80, 73; +13).

As a team, the Panthers stayed in 16th-place with a 305 on the day. Through two rounds, the squad is tied with Youngstown State at 614 (+54) and two strokes behind Delaware and Saint Bonaventure, which are tied for 14th in the 22-team field.

Meanwhile, HPU’s third freshman, RJ Bartolomucci, led the team in birdies (4) for the second time this week. Overall, Bartolomucci carded a 79 (+9) and enters the final day in a tie for 68th. Rounding out the quartet, sophomore Davis Kiger is tied for 96th (78, 80; +18).

HPU only had four golfers available with freshman Justin Lenzini sidelined for the day, but he will be back out on the course with the team on Tuesday.

The Panthers will wrap up the Kingsmill Intercollegiate with an 8:45 shotgun start on Tuesday morning.
