HIGH POINT, N.C.—Junior Brooke Stevens’ career-high eight points highlighted the High Point University women’s lacrosse team’s 17-11 win over George Mason Wednesday evening at Vert Stadium in High Point, N.C.
High Point (3-3), which has now won three-consecutive games, outshot the Patriots (2-3), 43-22 and led in ground balls, 27-12.
Stevens scored two goals and tallied a career-high six assists for a total of eight points, tied for the second-most points in a game in school history. Her six assists is tied for the third-most assists in a game in program history.
After George Mason scored the first goal, the Panthers recorded the next seven scores, including three in a row by junior Darla Poulin, and led at halftime, 10-4. The Patriots scored six of the first seven goals in the second half to pull within one at 11-10, but High Point posted six-consecutive goals on the way to a 17-11 win.
“I thought our team did a good job of executing our game plan tonight,” HPU head coach Lyndsey Boswell said. “We came out hot tonight and went on a run early. We definitely took advantage of the momentum swings early on and I’m really proud of the girls for how we started the game.”
Junior Darla Poulin matched a career-high with five goals and two assists, including a natural hat trick in the first eight minutes of the game. In two home games this season, Poulin has recorded 10 goals and four assists.
Junior Erin Ilchuk also had a career day with three goals and three assists.
Freshman Jill Rall (2-0) made four saves to earn the win for the Panthers, while Elizabeth Benedetto (2-3) took the loss for GMU.
Next up, the Panthers host Marist at noon on Sunday (March 19) at Vert Stadium.
