College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Scranton 15, Guilford 6

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Morgan Windisch scored five goals in visiting University of Scranton’s 15-6 women’s lacrosse win at Guilford College Tuesday night. Teammate Meghan Kerr added four scores and four assists as the Royals improved to 4-0.

The teams faced winds gusting upwards of 20 miles per hour and game time temperatures in the mid-30s.
Kerr wasted little time getting the Royals on the board as she scored twice in the opening two minutes. Summer Fowler scored for the Quakers (0-4) 5:12 into the game, but Scranton controlled possession and Kerr and Windisch finished well. The pair combined for seven first-half goals and the Royals closed the frame on a 9-1 run.

Windisch’s fifth and final tally three minutes into the second half put Scranton ahead by 10, but Guilford’s Amanda Dionne scored twice 1:41 apart to stop the running clock. Kerr set up a Meghan Loomie goal in the midst of a 3-0 Royals’ spurt in the middle of the second half. Dionne and teammate Demming Carlow closed out the scoring to provide the game’s final margin.

Scranton owned a 27-15 edge in shots, including a 20-7 advantage in the decisive first half. The Royals also took advantage of 23 Guilford turnovers and converted four-of-seven free-position shots. Christine Olert (2 goals, 2 assists) and Kailyn Angelo (1 goal, 1 assist) were the top offensive contributors after Windisch and Kerr. Angelo also won six draw controls and caused a game-high four turnovers. Erin Putnam, the first of three goals, played over 33 minutes and made two of the Royals’ three saves in goal.

Dionne paced Guilford’s offense with three goals and an assist. Carlow scored twice and added one helper and two caused turnovers. Guilford’s Summer Fowler also scored and picked up a game-high four ground balls. Sammi Milbourn went the distance in goal and made nine saves with two ground balls.

Coach Sarah Lamphier’s team hosts her predecessor Matthew Grosso’s Southwestern (Texas) University squad Friday (3/17) at 4:00 p.m.
