College Women’s Lacrosse Final – #17 Mary Washington 14, Guilford 3

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Visiting University of Mary Washington scored the game’s first nine goals in a 14-3 women’s lacrosse victory at Guilford College Tuesday. The Eagles (4-2) are ranked 17th in this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association NCAA Division III Poll.

Ten different Eagles scored, including Hope Lockwood, who netted two tallies during Mary Washington’s 9-0 start. Kate Smucker collected all of her game-high four points during the spurt with a goal and three assists. The swarming Eagles’ defense forced 10 first-half turnovers and Mary Washington’s attack peppered Quakers’ netminder Sammi Milbourn with 21 first-half shots.

Lockwood, MacKenzie Maguire, Allison Davis, and Emily Mott each scored twice for Mary Washington, which held a 31-13 shots advantage. Paige Childers won five draws, which helped the Eagles to a 12-5 edge in draw controls. Teammates Mott, Kirsten Littlefield and Katherine Lambert each picked up four ground balls. Littlefield, Maguire and Jennifer Bosserman each caused two turnovers. Kelsey Welsh, the last of three Eagles’ goalies, made three of the team’s four saves in the final 27 minutes.

Amanda Dionne scored all three of the Quakers’ goals, including two in the final 86 seconds of the first half. Milbourn had 12 saves, two ground balls and a caused turnover in 60 active minutes in goal. The Quakers’ Amber Dubois picked up a game-best five ground balls.

Coach Sarah Lamphier’s Quakers (0-3) host the University of Scranton Tuesday (3/14) at 7:00 p.m.
