HIGH POINT, N.C.—Junior Darla Poulin’s career day highlighted the High Point University women’s lacrosse team home opener, as the Panthers defeated Oregon, 17-13, Sunday at Vert Stadium.

The Panthers (1-3) and Ducks (5-2) were even on shots at 34 apiece, but Oregon won the battle of draw controls, 19-12, and ground balls, 21-18. A big difference in favor for the Panthers was in saves, where sophomore Molly Andrews matched a career-high with 13 saves, while Oregon as a team recorded seven saves.

“I’m proud of the way our girls executed our game plan,” HPU head coach Lyndsey Boswell said. “We came out with a lot of energy and intensity. We had a week off to reflect on the three games we had on the road and I thought we did a good job of coming out focused and ready to go.”

Poulin posted career highs in goals (5) and points (7) to lead the Panthers. Fellow junior Erica Perrotta added two goals and two assists, and has tallied at least two points in every game this season. Senior Samantha Brown and junior Brooke Stevens recorded two goals.

The Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 lead and did not allow the Ducks within four the rest of the contest. After Oregon cut the lead to 6-2, Poulin and freshman Ashley Britton scored 10 seconds apart to extend the lead to 8-2. Oregon scored the last three goals of the first half to bring the score to 10-5.

High Point scored six of the first seven goals of the second half to build a 16-6 lead, but Oregon tallied seven of the last eight scores to bring the final to 17-13.
