Elon Men’s Golf Starts Strong at Loyola Intercollegiate

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – William Harwood posted a season-low round of 69 to lead the Elon University men’s golf team in the first round of the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club. The Phoenix is tied for sixth out of 16 teams with a team total of 284 (-4).

RESULTS

Elon carded 27 birdies in the first round. Each Phoenix player made at least four birdies in their respective opening rounds.

The Highlights
Harwood, competing in his first spring match as a Phoenix, began strong with three birdies on his first four holes. He sank four more birdies on the back nine and is tied for seventh individually, five shots back of the lead.

Jared Mactas was 2-under par on his opening nine holes and went even par on his second nine to shoot a 2-under par round of 70. Mactas is tied for 15th.

Charlie May opened with an even-par round of 72 and is tied for 36th through 18 holes of play.

A 1-over par round of 73 has Jake Leavitt in a tie for 47th. Philip Loeb closed with birdies on his final two holes and is also tied for 47th at 1-over par.
