Game Report on Northwest Guilford-North Mecklenburg Boys Basketball:A night of Vikings sees North Meck take it from NWG for a Round Three ticket in the NCHSAA Tourney

NORTH MECKLENBURG 90, NORTHWEST GUILFORD 76
GAME NOTES:
–In a 2nd round matchup of a court full of Vikings in the NCHSAA playoffs, the Northwest Guilford Vikings traveled to face the North Mecklenburg Vikings in Charlotte. N. Meck came out on fire from beyond the three-point line as they hit six triples in the opening quarter on their way to a 26-15 1st quarter advantage. Northwest was able to find some rhythm defensively and played the 2nd frame even, but still found themselves down 11 points at the half despite shooting below 40% for the half. The 3rd quarter was a back and forth affair as the two talented teams matched each other bucket for bucket. Northwest was able to turn up the defensive pressure in the 4th quarter and cut their deficit to 3 points with 90 seconds to go at 74-71, but were unable to get over the hump in the end. N. Meck was able to make key free throws to seal the game down the stretch for the final margin of 90-76.
–The Vikings were led by Reggie Davis’ 24 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Jalen Spicer added another 24 points to go along with 8 assists and 3 rebounds while Tre Turner contributed 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Thomas Henningan chipped in with 7 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. David Funderberg finished with 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists to go along with Jacob Davis’ 6 rebounds and 3 blocks.
–North Meck. was led by J. Lowery’s 30 points while T. Maxwell and J. Withers contributed 17 and 13 points each.

SPECIAL NOTE: Unfortunately, Northwest must bid farewell to a wonderful group of seniors that have set a standard for NW Basketball for years to come. Jacob Davis, Reggie Davis, David Funderberg, Thomas Hennigan, Matt Rakes, Jalen Spicer, and Kyle Sullivan are to be commended for their efforts and contributions to the NW program. These 7 are very talented student-athletes, but most importantly, they are all fine young men that will be successful in the game of life…SALUTE!!!
