Game Report on Southwest Guilford-Mooresville Boys Basketball:Kam Langley hitting on all cylinders/C’boys destroys Blue Devils by 50, as Kam connects for 35

Southwest Guilford 88, Mooresville 38

The Cowboys of Southwest Guilford hosted the Blue Devils of Mooresville High School. The Devils are from the North Piedmont Conference, and have been playing well lately. The Blue Devils knocked off the #1 seed in their conference tournament last week, but fell short in the title game to Alexander Central. The Cowboys have started firing on all cylinders as well as they are fresh off their own conference tournament title game with a tough road win over a very good Vikings squad. This year’s Cowboys squad is expecting to make some noise the state playoffs and tonight was the first step.

The Cowboys didn’t hesitate to set the tone for the night. After a solid defensive possession, the Cowboys score the first 9 points of the game by the 6:21 mark. The Blue Devils finally got on the board at 9-2 with 6:05 to go in the frame. After trading baskets Southwest went on another run, this time 10-0 to take us to 21-4 with 3:20 on the clock. Mooresville managed to stay even the rest of the frame and the opening quarter closed at 25-9.

The Blue Devils scored on a 3 pointer to open up the second quarter to cut it to 25-12. After a couple of poor possessions, the Cowboys finally responded with a 3 point play to get it back to 28-12 which was the spark of a quick 7-0 spurt. The highlight was a demonstrative alley-oop dunk off the backboard by Kobe Langley. In the second quarter the Cowboys doubled up the Blue Devils and took the halftime lead of 51-22.

The second half opened up with some more highlights as Southwest scored the opening 8 points including another nice alley-oop dunk in transition. It was 59-22 at the 5:37 mark. Mooresville managed to get on the board with their only basket at the 5:15 mark making it 59-24. A rare Kameron Langley 3 pointer put the Cowboys up 62-24, and 30 seconds later it was 64-24 at the 4:17 mark which got the clock running. The frame ended quickly thereafter at 67-24.

The final frame was over in a blur with the clock running down on the opening round of the State 4A Playoffs. Southwest cruised for a convincing opening round victory to the tune of 88-38. Southwest advances to play at home on Thursday night.

The Blue Devils were led by Jay Davis with 12 points. The Cowboys were led by Senior Kameron Langley’s career high of 35 points to go along with 8 Steals, 5 Rebounds, and 3 Assists. Brandon Lamberth also hit double figures with (10, Reb, Ast). The Cowboys played a great team game and got great contributions from the whole roster and improve to 23-3 on the season.
