Saint Pius X Comets Varsity Girls complete perfect season 34-0

Last weekend the girls finished first in their conference tournament at Bishop McGuinness High School defeating IHM of High Point 45-18.

This weekend the Comets swept the Shamrock Tournament in Charlotte, NC which hosted 32 girls teams from four states. Saint Pius X defeated St. James (Savannah, GA) Friday night by a score of 40-9. Saturday saw two big wins over IHM (Atlanta, GA) 50-31 and Immaculata (Raleigh, NC) 41-21. On Sunday in the Semi’s, Saint Pius X defeated IHM (High Point, NC) 41-11 and Holy Trinity (Charlotte, NC) in the championship game on their home court 38-28. This was Saint Pius X’s 6th consecutive PECSAA conference title and 5th consecutive Shamrock Tournament Title. Caroline Wyrick was the 2017 Shamrock Tournament MVP, while Anna Schmedes and Alaila Kreuter made the All-Tournament Team. The girls completed an undefeated season with other key wins along the way against a very talented Eastern Guilford team and Southeast Guilford.

Saint Pius X was lead by 8th graders Caroline Wyrick, Kate Dunlay, Alaila Kreuter, Meredith Fennie and 7th grader Anna Schmedes, yet every member of the team played a vital role in the team’s success including…Sullivan Ray, Kate Reed, Alison Wahlberg, Kaitlin Bliss, Mary Ann Edmonds and Lyndsey Gamble.
