College Women’s Swimming Results – Guilford 8th After Second Day of ODAC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College freshman Carolyn O’Halloran (Summerfield, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) set the school’s 200-yard freestyle record to win the ‘B’ final Saturday at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Swimming Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Guilford sits in eighth place among nine teams after the second day of the three-day event. The Quakers picked up 39 points Saturday to raise their total to 89. Greensboro College sits four points ahead of Guilford, which has an 11-point cushion over ninth-place Ferrum College. Nine-time defending meet champion Washington and Lee University won six of seven events and set three meet records Friday to maintain a sizable lead over second-place Randolph-Macon College. The Generals have 694 points after Saturday’s competition, followed by the Yellow Jackets (373) and third-place Emory & Henry College (313).

O’Halloran, who swam the second-fastest 50 freestyle in school history Friday, set the 200 mark in the morning preliminaries where she placed ninth in two minutes, 10.27 seconds. She led from start to finish in the evening’s ‘B’ final and lowered the standard to 2:09.01.

O’Halloran also anchored Guilford’s 200 medley relay which qualified for the A final in 2:24.02 and placed eighth in the final in 2:24.58.

Kate Nunke reached the ‘B’ final in the 100 backstroke where she came home 15th in 1:15.15. Teammate Isabel Gutierrez, like Nunke a part of the 200 medley relay, qualified for the ‘B’ final of the 100 breaststroke where she placed 16th in 1:21.69. Hannah Rouse (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) also swam Saturday evening and finished 12th in the 100 butterfly in 1:23.70. She qualified earlier in the day with a time of 1:22.81.

Coach Ashley Cox’s Quakers wrap up competition at the three-day meet Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. with preliminary races. The finals session begins at 5:00 p.m. at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
