Elon Women’s Track & Field: Three Qualify for ECACs at Liberty Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Elon University women’s track and field team saw three of its athletes become the latest to qualify for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships as the Phoenix opened the first day at the Liberty Invitational on Friday evening, Feb. 10, inside the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.

RESULTS

Emily Dixon won the heptathlon with a 3,702 points and qualified for the ECACs. The Bath, England, native set won the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles, high jump and shot put events while setting new personal-records in the the 60-meter hurdles (8.84) and the high jump (5’ 5”).

In the women’s 5,000-meters, Elon took the top three spots of the race with Coralea Geraniotis and Shelby Cuddeback advancing to the ECACs. Geraniotis won the race with her time of 17:08.35 while Cuddeback was the runner-up with her time of 17:20.69. Geraniotis time broke her into the program’s top-five performance list. Freshman Sophia Tasselmyer was third overall in the race with her time of 17:49.56.

Briana O’Grady was ninth in the weight throw as the South Kingstown, R.I., native had a toss of 51’ 9.75” (15.79m).

The Phoenix concludes the meet tomorrow, Feb. 11.
