College Women’s Swimming Results – Guilford Closes Out Dual-Meet Portion of Schedule

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College closed the regular-season portion of its women’s swimming team Friday with three losses in a four-team meet with NCAA Division II member Chowan University and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rivals Greensboro College and Hollins University.

Chowan placed first with three wins, followed by Hollins, Greensboro and Guilford. Chowan defeated the Quakers (2-7, 1-6 ODAC), 106-37. Hollins topped Guilford, 103-41, and the host Pride claimed a 68-55 victory over Guilford. Greensboro took two of the three meetings this year with Guilford.

Rookie Carolyn O’Halloran had the Quakers’ top individual efforts with two second-place finishes. She placed second among five swimmers in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of two minutes, 16.49 seconds. O’Halloran also touched second out of seven participants in the 100 freestyle in 1:01.34. She was fourth in the six-person 50 free style in 28.03 seconds.

Junior Isabel Gutierrez was second in the four-swimmer 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:21.68. She took third in the 200 freestyle (2:23.16) and fifth in the 100 individual medley.

Sophomore Kate Nunke also swam three events, highlighted be her fourth-place time of 1:15.59 in the 100 backstroke.

Coach Ashley Cox’s Quakers turn their attention to the 2017 ODAC Championships Feb. 10-12 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
