Game Report on Southwest Guilford-East Forsyth Boys Basketball:Five C’boys in Double-Digits with Keyshaun, Kobe and Kameron Langley, along with Christian Martin and Cooper Cunningham making the ‘Ranch Rock’

Southwest Guilford 88, East Forsyth 69

Tonight marked the start of game action in 2017 for the Cowboys as well as the start of the final season in the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference.

Tonight the Cowboys welcomed the Eagles of East Forsyth High School. Southwest has controlled this conference match-up, and looked to keep their conference dominance going in this final season. The Eagles however are coming in on a 4 game winning streak, whereas the Cowboys are looking to regroup following a loss to Wesleyan.

The Eagles used a strong second half surge to cruise past the Glenn Bobcats last night to start their conference campaign, whereas this was the Cowboys’ first game action in over two weeks.

The game opened with the teams trading baskets, then a 6-0 spurt put the Cowboys ahead 8-3 at the 6:01 mark. The Eagles quickly responded with a 4-0 spurt of their own making it 8-7. Again the teams traded baskets for a few possessions until another small spurt by the Cobwoys made it 19-13. Once again the Eagles responded with a run of their own to close out the first quarter with Southwest holding a slight 19-17 lead.

The second quarter was the same story with both teams trading baskets and trading runs. This time the Eagles fought out to take a 28-26 lead at the 4:30 mark. The lead didn’t last long as a mere 5 seconds ticked off the clock before Cowboy Kobe Langley hit his first of back-to-back threes in less than 40 seconds to take a 32-28 lead. That was the spark of the 16-1 run that closed out the half for Southwest as the opening half closed at 42-29.

The second half didn’t open well, as the Cowboys turned it over on the opening possession. Despite that, the Cowboys were able to put a few possessions together in a row and the margin steadily built to 57-37 midway through the frame. The Eagles then clawed back into it with a 9-0 run taking it to 57-46 with 2 minutes left in the frame. The final minutes of the frame were back and forth and the third stanza closed at 64-52.

East Forsyth fought hard in the final frame, took advantage of sloppy possessions by the hosts, and made things interesting. In fact, the margin got to 71-65 with 5:00 left in the game. Following a Cowboys timeout, Southwest shook the rust off and once again in a blink of a couple of minutes, it was 84-65. Forcing turnovers and tempo helped the Cowboys blitz the Eagles in those final 5 minutes of the game as the game finished at 88-69 for the Cowboys.

It was the seventh win in a row for the Cowboys over the Eagles, and 14th of 17 total matchups in this final season in the same conference together.

The Eagles were led by Jordan Roberson with 20 points. Southwest once again placed 5 in double figures. Kobe Langley with (19, 6 Asts, 5 Rebs, 3 Stls), Christian Martin (12, 5 Rebs), Kameron Langley (11, 9 Rebs, 7 Asts, 4 Stls), Cooper Cunningham (11, 2 Rebs, Ast), and Keyshaun Langley (11, 5 Asts, 4 Stls).
