College Women’s Swimming Results – Guilford Splits Two Races at Ferrum College

FERRUM, Va. – Guilford College’s women’s swimming team split two contests with Ferrum College and LaGrange College Friday night. The Quakers (2-4, 1-4 ODAC) downed LaGrange, 70-33, but fell to the host Panthers, 88-63.

Guilford turned in six first-place finishes and a second-place effort in the nine-race meet. Rookie Carolyn O’Halloran (Summerfield, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) won all three of her races, all freestyle contests. She outpaced five others to claim the 200-yard freestyle in two minutes, 13.51 seconds. Later, she won the four-woman 50-freestyle race in 27.59 seconds. O’Halloran out-touched six others in 1:01.94.

Quakers’ junior Isabel Gutierrez won the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.56 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:58.57. She placed third in the 200 freestyle in 2:22.14.

Kate Nunke claimed Guilford’s sixth win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:14.59 that beat two other swimmers. She was second in the four-woman 200 individual medley with a time of 3:00.07.

Coach Ashley Cox’s team visits Greensboro College Friday (1/20) at 6:00 p.m. for a meet that also includes NCAA Division II member Chowan University and Hollins University.
