Bocock Adds Three in 2017 Elon Softball Recruiting Class

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball program and head coach Kathy Bocock announced the additions of three talented future student-athletes to the program as the Phoenix released its 2017 recruiting class of Jamie Finnical (Franklin High School / Reistertown, Md.), Katrina Martin (Ashby High School / Dayton, Va.) and Ally Repko (Broadway High School / Broadway, Va.) on Wednesday, Nov. 23.

“The class we’re bringing in next year will help us continue to elevate the program to where we want it to be,” said Bocock. “They are very athletic and have an incredible work ethic. We are really looking forward to them joining this program and they will make a seamless transition in fitting in with our current group of players.”

The trio will join the Phoenix for the fall of 2017.

Jamie Finnical • Pitcher • Franklin High School • Reisterstown, Md.

Prep/Club Career
• Pitches at Franklin High School under head coach Jamie Widerman.
• Named 2016 All-County Pitcher.
• Selected All-Division Pitcher in 2014 and 2015.
• Helped team to quarterfinalist appearances in 2015 and 2016.
• Plays club team for the Virginia Glory Gold under head coach Jessica Grisler.
• Pitched a no-hitter with the club team in 2016.
• Named to the Honor Roll all four years.
• Helped the club team to the ASA Gold Nationals in 2014 and 2015.

Personal
• Daughter of Mark and CJ Finnical.
• Plans to major in sport and event management.

Bocock on Finnical: “(Jamie’s) work ethic is unbelievable. She is able to grow off of her strengths as use them as building blocks to be successful. She is also very mature in terms of her athletic knowledge and also does a great job at the plate with the bat as well. She also has a great passion and love for Elon, this sport and program.”

Jamie on Why Elon: “My first footsteps on the beautiful campus made me feel as if I was home. I have always dreamed of going to an institution that will challenge me both on and off the field. After meeting the extraordinary coaches and girls, Elon seemed to be the perfect fit. I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to be a part of a team that values academics as much as athletics. I am endlessly grateful for my family, teammates and coaches over the past ten years who have prepared me to play at the next level.”

Katrina Martin • Utility • Dayton, Va. • Turner Ashby High School

Prep/Club Career
• Plays at Turner Ashby High School under head coach Clint Curry
• Named first team All-Conference at shortstop in 2016.
• Earned second team All-Region at shortstop in 2016.
• Picked to the second team All-Conference at third base in 2015.
• Earned the team’s Coaches’ Award in 2014 and 2016.
• Plays travel ball with the Richmond Diamonds for head coach Walter Pettus.
• Helped club team qualify for the 2016 ASA Gold 16U Nationals.

Personal
• Daughter of Grant and Jenny Martin.
• Mother competed in gymnastics at Radford University.
• Intends to major in environmental studies.

Bocock on Katrina: “Katrina is a true utility player who can literally play the middle infield spots, the corners and the outfield. She is a solid hitter with a great work ethic and leads by example with her play. She’s also really bright and will fit in perfectly with this team. She will be someone that can fill in wherever we need her to.”

Katrina on Why Elon: “When I stepped on Elon’s campus and got to know the softball coaches I knew it was the place I wanted to spend the next four years of my life. I can’t wait to continue my softball career and education at such a great school.”

Ally Repko • Third base/Catcher • Broadway High School • Broadway, Va.

Prep/Club Career
• Plays at Broadway High School under head coach Becky Cantrell.
• Named first team All-District, All-Conference and All-Region in both 2015 and 2016.
• Named first team All-State in 2015 and second team accolades in 2016.
• The Valley District Player of the Year in 2015.
• Helped high school to the 2016 Conference 29 championship and the state semifinals.
• Plays travel ball with the Williamsburg Starz under coach Thomas Bunn.
• Aided club team to 2015 ASA 16U National Runner-Up

Personal
• Daughter of Bryan and Jo Repko.
• Dad played baseball at Potomac State and Bridgewater.
• Mother played softball at Bridgewater.
• Intends to major in computer science.

Bocock on Ally: “Ally is a lefty power hitter who can play one of the corners and catch for us. She’s a great overall athlete having played multiple sports in high school and also played for a great travel ball organization, the Williamsburg Starz. I’m just really excited that she’s coming here to play for us.”

Ally on Why Elon: “I chose Elon because it reminded me of home.”
