We may have broken a Radio Record on Saturday

Back on Saturday with all the rain, we had a Doubleheader scheduled for Greensboro Grasshoppers baseball at NewBridge Bank Park…Start time was set at 4:30pm for Game One of the doubleheader and our internet radio pre-game show began at 4:10pm and it was going along OK until around the scheduled first-pitch time of 4:30 and that is when the rains hit and we just kept getting it with pre-game show, letting fans along the web and on the radio know what the current conditions were and how long it would be before the game or games would begin…

I was solo in the beginning and then as time went on, I enlisted the services of Bill Hass, from the Bill on Baseball Blogs, at GSO Hoppers.com…Bill stayed on for a long part of the ride and then we got the inside from Wes Gullett, the official scorer for the Grasshoppers and the Sports Information Director, at Greensboro College….Bill Hass is also a well-known former writer for the News and Record, the Greensboro Record and the Greensboro Daily News…

The ride for the pre-game show began at 4:10 and after a few hours we learned that the start time for the game and now there would only be one nine inning game, the start time for the game would be 8:10pm….

So the scheduled half hour or so pre-game show turned out to be one that lasted and be sure to get this down, FOUR HOURS….

That’s right, a four-hour pre-game baseball show that also included basketball talk, football talk, NASCAR talk, horse racing talk, and good ‘ole general GreensboroSports talk…

The four-hour pre-game show is equivalent to eight normal/regular pre-game shows and the way it goes, you finish up the FOUR HOUR pre-game show and then, guess what? There’s still a game to played and to honest with you my hat is off to Donald Moore, Jack Holloway, Katie Danemiller and the Hoppers staff for the work that they did to get that game in on Saturday night….

So with what might be the new World’s Record for the longest baseball pre-game show in history and then after all of that what about the game, how long was that right?????

Time of game on Saturday was 2:49…Two hours and forty-nine minutes and not too bad, at least not the typical minor league baseball standard of 3 hours….(You’re talking six hours and forty-nine minutes of broadcast time from Saturday and when you throw in the post game session/show time, that turned out to a Seven-hour, non-stop broadcast….Maybe one for the books.)

So now that we have the record for the Longest Baseball Pre-game show in history, you may ask, “Are you sure that you want it?”….Why not, you need something to talk about the next time the rain delay hits and if you can re-cap that Four-hour journey, you should be able to fill and bide the time, any time….

Another chapter in the GreensboroSports book, but really just another part of the journey….

*****This really might not be all that big of a deal, but is still pretty interesting when you add it all up and tell the story…..*****
