Brian Seagraves has stepped down at the head boys basketball coach at Dudley High School:Panthers job is open and who will fill it???

CLICK HERE for Joe Sirera at the News and Record….He is on this and we will miss Coach Brian Seagraves….A good man, a good dad and a good basketball coach…Loved his work and worked it hard….Four-year record of 59-40 record overall, 29-11 in Metro Conference play and the Dudley Panthers won the conference this past season….Coach Seagraves spent a couple of seasons over at High Point Andrews as the head boys coach there, before returning to Dudley, his alma mater, to take over for long-time coach David Price, who stepped down…

Now who will be the new Dudley Panthers’s head boys basketball coach???

1)Does Derrick Partee leave Smith and come home to Dudley and become the Panthers head coach?

2)Does Art Wade step down as the Dudley AD and become the Panthers’ basketball coach?? Coach Wade could hire himself as basketball coach and then resign as the Athletic Director…Just dealing in a some scenarios here…

3)Does one of Coach David Price’s sons come home to Dudley and become the new Panthers’ coach???

Let the speculation begin and let it begin in a positive way/manner here…..

+++++BTW, Coach Seagraves will pursue assistant coaching jobs on the college level.+++++

  1. Hearing former Andrews and Page coach James Abell may be looking to get back in the game.

  2. Coach Abell also a former Dudley assistant coach with Coach Price back in the day…Maybe Coach Price’s nephew up at McMichael might be interested too and could bring Coach Price back as his assistant…

Coach Abell would do a good job, Coach Partee with assistant coach Waddell coming back with him, they would do a good job…Coach Wade would do a good job, but he may coach some AAU and that would have to be put on hold…

Hold on, this job is for sure wide-open now…

  3. Andy Coach Waddell would make a good candidate for the job. From the Price coaching tree and if not mistaking a graduate of Dudley himself just like Seagraves. Or maybe even Coach Ferguson. See if you could get these guys thoughts Andy.

  4. Whoever it is would have to understand the rich tradition of Dudley High School. This job is not like any other high school coaching job in the state. You have to be on top. The Dudley community expects nothing less. It’s like having a big time coaching job at prestigious college. So whoever it is be ready!!!

P.S. I prefer it be an alumnus of the high school.
    Panther Pride!! c/o 79

  5. I think that they should bring back Derrick Partee.

He has a very good record in his time coaching at Smith High School and he deserves the chance to lead his old high school.

DP at Dudley and that is the way it should be.

Partee knows and has lived the “Dudley Tradition”.

  6. My vote is for Partee and Waddell. Bring them back, they know what is going on over at James B. Dudley High School.

  7. But do they know how to use Dudley Academy to get the athletes in from other schools as well. Don’t act like it doesn’t happen either

  8. I was hearing today that some people are talking about bringing the “Hat Man” over to Dudley to coach the basketball team…Every kid in town that has played basketball at the downtown YMCA knows the “Hat Man”…

The “Hat Man” sinks those 75 foot near full-court shots and he can even shoot them backwards…

The “Hat Man” might be Dat Man that Dudley needs to get them jump started…

Bring him in to at least improve the long-range shooting because he can out-shoot most everyone in town from 75 feet out and beyond…

The “Hat Man” might be Dat Man for the Da Panthers and you never know, he might be willing to coach for Free in exchange for some new Hats….

We shall see, but in all seriousness, you have to feel that Dudley will try and announce the new coach for boys basketball by the end of the school year..

And watch out, the “Hat Man” might be wearing a whistle soon with DHS on it….

  9. Coach Partee has a good team at Smith that is probably better than Dudley. Dudley had a chance to get him and picked someone else. I hope he will see it that way and stay and build his on rep at Smith.

  10. Eagles, I agree. He is established at Smith. I think at this point going back to Dudley would be a bad move. However, going home is always enticing.

  11. I think Randel Galloway from McMichael would be a great fit into this program. Coach Price can surely show him the Dudley Way!

  13. Someone said today that they thought Josh Chavis should come back to town and take this job and run with it…

Josh Chavis, the former Dudley point guard, now an assistant coach at USC Upstate.

  14. Why would someone leave a college job for a high school job? These people don’t work for free. I am a complete outsider from Dudley but I personally believe Dudley should focus on getting the best coach regardless of whether they went to Dudley or not. Players want to play for great coaches that know the game. If you have a great coach, then players will stay in the district and other players will apply via the Academy. Too many schools hire coaches not connected to AAU or the general community. Get a coach that understands AAU and the college recruiting process and one that gets involved with the kids in the community. Dudley year in and year out has the best selection of players for basketball. They just need to keep the best coach possible. I would love to see the stands full again for Dudley basketball.

  15. No school can compete with them because they are taking or talking to everybodys best player. I don’t know why people act like this isn’t going on. It’s not an even playing field. All school should have an “academy” then everybody can recruit. Same thing is happening over at Smith

  16. Randal Galloway at McMichael would be a good candidate. He has done good things at a school that is not known for its basketball, and really gets his kids to play hard and as a team. Would be interesting to see if he decides to give it a shot.
