LYNCHBURG, Va. – The High Point University men’s track & field team put the finishing touches on its prep for next week’s Big South Championship at the Liberty Qualifier Wednesday at Matthes-Hopkins Track.

Senior Austin Miller and freshman Alejandro Juan Torres each posted top-2 finishes to lead the Purple & White in Lynchburg.

Miller put together another strong showing in the pole vault Wednesday, finishing second in the event with a mark of 4.97m (16-3.5). Miller cleared the 4.82m and 4.97m bars on his first attempt and had some good efforts at the 5.12m bar before finishing up with the second-place showing.

In addition, junior Isaiah Henderson placed t-8th with a mark of 4.37m (14-4).

Torres continued his strong racing of late with another excellent effort in the 1500-meter. After posting a new PR of 3:47.19 to finish second at the Duke Invitational a fortnight ago, Torres again earned a second-place showing at Liberty with a time of 3:51.46. In addition to Torres, senior Cody Seymour was 21st in 4:15.48 and freshman Bryan Gonzalez placed 25th in 4:22.00

Sophomore James House posted his best 100m dash time in more than a month, running a season-best 10.49 seconds to place ninth and just miss out on the final by less than a 10th of a second. House is currently t-51st in the NCAA East Region and will look to shave a few more tenths off at next week’s Big South Championship to move into the top-48.

In addition to House, freshman Christian Langston placed 28th in the 100-meter with a collegiate best time of 11.46 seconds.

In the shot put, senior Jim Wilson placed seventh with a season-best throw of 14.68m (48-2) and freshman Britton Mann was 13th with a mark of 13.48m (44-2.75). Wilson also finished eighth in the discus (45.20m, 148-3), while Mann was ninth with a collegiate PR of 44.93m (147-5).

On the jumps circuit, freshman Brad Kanney competed in the long jump and placed 13th with a mark of 5.94m (19-6).
