Elon Baseball Phoenix Plays Host to Aggies in Lone Mid-Week Contest

ELON, N.C. – In the final stretch of the regular season, the Elon University baseball team will play host to the North Carolina A&T Aggies in a 6:30 p.m. game on Wednesday, May 4.

The Series
Elon and North Carolina A&T have met 55 times since first meeting in 1974. The maroon and gold holds a commanding 47-7-1 advantage in the series, including a 21-1-1 mark at home. The Aggies did earn the win in the last meeting, an 8-7 contest at War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro, N.C., in early April.

North Carolina A&T, which plays a game at Appalachian State on Tuesday, begins the week with a 10-36 overall record. The Aggies are 3-15 in MEAC play. The team is hititng .271 and has scored 236 runs in 46 games. The Aggies have hit 77 doubles, seven triples and 32 home runs. N.C. The Phoenix won eight consecutive conference games after winning the final two games at Northeastern and then recording home sweeps of Towson and Hofstra. The last time that Elon won at least eight straight league games was in 2009 when the maroon and gold put together a 17-game conference winning streak. Elon’s 2016 streak came to an end with a 13-10 defeat at James Madison.

Ogren Repeats
Ryne Ogren earned his second CAA Rookie of the Week in a row after hitting .381 (8-for-21) with a home run, five runs scored and seven RBI to help the Phoenix to a 3-1 week. He had three multi-hit outings and had a career-high five RBI in the series-clinching victory at JMU. Ogren hit .545 (6-for-11) with runners on base and .556 (5-for-9) with runners in scoring position.

On Deck
Elon will conclude CAA play this weekend with a three-game series at Delaware. The Phoenix and Blue Hens will open the series with a 3 p.m. contest on Friday, May 6.
