HiToms Resign Two Players

High Point/Thomasville, NC – The High Point-Thomasville HiToms announced today the signings of utility player Hunter Slater and right-handed pitcher Ryan Kahny.

As a member of the HiToms, Slater played in 32 games with four homers, 11 runs batted and he swiped seven stolen bases. The Mobile, AL native heads back to HPT after a successful first season in 2015 with the HiToms.

Slater redshirted his freshman year at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. He’s come on to the scene for the Golden Eagles this season with 19 starts. Slater is currently batting .315 while clubbing three home runs and 11 runs batted in for Southern Miss.

In high school, Slater attended Bayside Academy where he was two-time 3A all-state selection and garnered three all-region honors.

Kahny is a High Point native and former Post 87 HiTom (2013 & ’14). He finished the 2015 summer with the CPL HiToms following a promotion from the HPT Locos.

A sophomore at NCAA Division II Catawba College, Kahny has pitched 15 innings and recorded 13 strikeouts. Last summer, Kahny pitched in 6 games out of the bullpen for the HiToms racking up a 1-1 record and a 3.94 earned run average.

At Central High School, he started for three seasons while on the mound and in the outfield for the Bison.

Opening day at Historic Finch Field on May 28 against Kernersville at 7.
