College Softball Finals – Guilford 4–15, Bridgewater 2–0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s Laura Hall hit four-for-four over the Quakers’ Saturday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader sweep of Bridgewater College. The Quakers claimed game one, 4-2, and game two, 15-0, in five innings.

Bridgewater claimed an early 1-0 lead as they loaded the bases in the top of the second inning, but could not capitalize after driving home a run on a walk. Taylor Boyd and Laura Hall each collected RBI-singles one half-inning later to claim a 2-1 lead. The Quakers rallied with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend the lead in a two-run rally capped by Bray’s double. Game one starting pitcher Casey Snead did not allow any more than one base runner to reach base in the final three innings of the contest as the Quakers cruised to victory.

Guilford jumped on Bridgewater in game two, posting three runs in the bottom of the first inning, all with two outs. The Quakers exploded one inning later with a six-run rally, all with one out, on seven hits, forcing Bridgewater’s game two starting pitcher Carolyn Campbell out of the contest. Errors produced two runs in the inning as the Quakers batted through the entire order, amassing 11 plate appearances in the frame. Bridgewater posted five errors in the game as Guilford scored runs in every inning of the contest, cruising to victory.

Makayla Carver hit four-for-five over the doubleheader, while batting three-for-three in game two, with four stolen bases and a double. Hall added three stolen bases and two RBI to her perfect day at the plate. Brooks Bray (Thomasville, N.C./Ledford) hit three-for-five over both contests with two RBI and a double. Makayla Crawford led the Quakers in game two, hitting three-for-three with a double and a team-leading four RBI.

Snead (5-5) took the game one complete-game win for the Quakers, striking out six batters and walking five in a three-hit effort. Courtney Lackey (9-5) took the complete-game victory in game two where she struck out three and walked two in a four-hit shutout.

The Quakers now await results of other ODAC contest throughout the day in preparation for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament, beginning Friday afternoon at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va.
