College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Hampden-Sydney 11, Guilford 7

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ian Levin scored three goals and an assist in Hampden-Sydney College’s 11-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference lacrosse win at Guilford College Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers (9-5, 4-2 ODAC) scored six of the game’s final seven goals for their fifth win in six games.

After falling behind 5-1, Guilford (6-7, 2-4 ODAC) scored five straight goals. The Quakers netted four in the second quarter to knot the score at 5-5 at halftime, and took their first lead on Daniel Haupt’s unassisted tally 72 seconds into the third quarter.

The Tigers tied the game on Levin’s goal off a Jake Doetzer feed with 9:17 left in the third quarter. Levin scored during a delayed slashing penalty on the Quakers and on the ensuing possession, Hampden-Sydney regained the lead on Hunter Brown’s extra-man goal.

After successfully killing off the first of three third-quarter penalties, Chandler Shaheen scored his second goal of the game, which opened an 8-6 Tigers’ edge.

Despite stall warnings, Hampden-Sydney’s roll continued into the fourth quarter as Brown and Morris scored 1:18 apart midway through the frame. A two-minute non-releasable penalty on the Tigers gave the Quakers some hope with 2:24 left. Guilford’s Daniel Hughey converted with 1:45 left from Dylan Haupt, but the Tigers’ Jared Arntzen won the ensuing face-off and Levin iced the win with a man-down empty-net score.

Levin and Brown shared game-high honors with three goals apiece. Shaheen and Duncan Morris both scored twice. Wilson Booth won six of the game’s first 13 face-offs and picked up five ground balls, but was replaced by Arntzen in the second half and the junior won all six of his draws and had four ground balls. Mitch Renfrow made eight saves and caused a turnover in goal.

Guilford had seven different goal scorers, including Hughey, who also had a team-high three ground balls. He and Adam Fiore both scored extra-man goals. Dylan Haupt had two assists. Connor Manning won six of 15 draws for Guilford. Parker Styles made eight stops in goal.
