College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 12, Shenandoah 8

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Adam Fiore scored a goal and four assists in Guilford College’s 12-8 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse victory over visiting Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon. Four different Quakers each scored twice as Guilford (3-5, 1-2 ODAC) never trailed.

After a frenetic opening period in which seven different players scored, Shenandoah’s Tilghman Sanders scored his second goal of the game to start the second-quarter scoring and tie the game at 4-4. The Quakers reeled off the next four goals, two by Dylan Haupt, and led at halftime, 8-4.

Shenandoah’s Ryan Schott and Connor Bishop scored in the final two minutes of the third quarter, which made it an 8-6 Guilford lead entering the final period.

Guilford dominated the face-off circle all game and the Quakers’ Connor Manning won the opening fourth-quarter draw, which led to Daniel Hughey’s second goal of the game and a 9-6 Quakers’ edge. The tally triggered a three-goal spurt over the next 1:52 that opened an 11-6 Guilford lead.

Shenandoah’s Connor Bishop scored with 10:40 left in regulation and teammate Jeff Goss netted the Hornets’ third man-up goal with 3:07 left to get the visitors to within 11-8. The Quakers’ Aaron Parrish won the ensuing draw and Guilford iced the win less than a minute later on Ian Wiesenberg’s nifty behind-the-back goal from Andrew McDonagh.

Fiore’s season-high five points led all scorers. Haupt, Wiesenberg, Hughey and Zachary Berkowitz each scored twice. McDonagh contributed a goal and two assists. Manning won 11-of-13 draws and picked up nine ground balls. Parrish won 9-of-11 face-offs and collected six ground balls. The pair combined to win 20 of the game’s face-offs. Parker Styles made 14 saves in goal.
