College Baseball Final – Guilford 8, Emory & Henry 6

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Logan Jones enjoyed a three-for-three afternoon at the plate with two RBI as Guilford College claimed a Wednesday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Emory & Henry College, 8-6.

Both sides dueled for the first four innings as the Quakers posted one run in each of the first four innings with three of the four runs being scored with two outs. Emory & Henry posted a one-out rally in the top of the second inning driving in two runs on back-to-back at-bats before the Quakers quickly retired the Wasps in the frame. Emory & Henry loaded the bases in the sixth inning and capped a four-run rally with three runs coming with two-outs in an inning elongated by an error in left field for the inning’s final run. Guilford answered the rally with a three-run rally in the next half-inning as the Quakers produced three hits and took advantage of an error and a dropped third strike that drove in the final run of the rally to reclaim the lead. The Quakers added an insurance run with no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning after a Grayson Tuttle single drove home Jones, who reached base on a triple. The Quakers allowed no Emory & Henry base-runners in the last three innings to hold on to the advantage.

Jones drove in two runs on his three-for-three afternoon that included a sacrifice fly along with a double and a triple. Chuck Noble posted a four-for-five afternoon with a pair of double while Joe Metts also produced a pair of doubles with one RBI.

The bottom third of Emory & Henry’s batting order all produced multi-hit efforts, led by Ben Sexton’s three-RBI afternoon. Connor Stevenson and Dalton Horne each drove in one run a piece.

John Todd (3-1) claimed the win in a four-inning relief effort where he gave up only two hits and one unearned run. Darin Salter struck out three and walked one in a five-inning start, throwing into the sixth inning.
