HPU’s Andrews, Herman earn Big South WLAX weekly accolades

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University women’s lacrosse freshmen Molly Andrews and Samantha Herman were recognized by the Big South Conference Tuesday for their outstanding efforts on the field over the past week.

Andrews was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Herman made it a fantastic fortnight, earning Big South Freshman of the Week accolades for the second-straight week.

The duo helped HPU post a 2-1 record over the past seven days with wins against Power 5 conference schools Oregon and Michigan.

Andrews was brilliant against the Ducks Monday in Eugene, making 13 saves while allowing just seven goals to an Oregon team averaging more than 12 per game. In the victory over Michigan, the Sayville, N.Y., native made six of her seven saves in the second half to help the Panthers upend the Wolverines. She held a Michigan team averaging 10.6 goals/contest to just six.

Herman racked up four goals, an assist, seven draw controls and four ground balls for the Panthers on the week. Herman’s best outing came in a 11-6 victory over Michigan when she posted two goals, an assist, three ground balls and two draw controls. She registered a career best four draw controls in the win over the Ducks and posted a pair of scores against Davidson.

Andrews, Herman and the Panthers return to action on March 22 when High Point battles intra-Triad rival Elon in Vert Stadium. First draw is scheduled for 7 p.m.
